Bobby Karaoke Supports Karaoke John’s Return To The Scene

bobbykaraoke | Announcements | Monday, December 4th, 2006

Bobby Karaoke just wanted to make a public announcement welcoming the return of Karaoke John back to the karaoke scene. Read the touching linked story, and I think you’ll find that he is one of the better karaoke troops out there. According to the article:

“He’s slowly recovering and has much to look forward to, including returning to the microphone and marrying Heatherington next fall. But for now, he’s focused on spending as much time as possible with his family this Christmas.”

I think we should all remember what’s important… and John is reminding us here. We wish you all the best!!

I don’t like boats, and I haven’t slept in 37 hours!

bobbykaraoke | News | Monday, December 4th, 2006

…but that didn’t stop the “gangly Canadian with a Fu Manchu mustache and a fluffy mullet” from giving Otis Redding’s Try a Little Tenderness his best.

That’s correct. According to Wired Magazine, the Karaoke World Championships are in full swing, baby! Over the next few days, 44 contestants from 17 countries will be crooning to their favorite tunes on board the Finnish cruiseliner, M/S Galaxy. Competing for the grand prize - And all the while, massively drunk. THOSE LUCKY BASTARDS!

While you and I sit home watching the event on ESPN IV, those amateurs are out on that sparking cruise ship - a brand-new quarter-of-a-billion dollar beast that ferries between Helsinki and Tallinn (Estonia).

These people are obviously just competing for bragging rights… because the prize is merely another electronic karaoke system. Any karaoke pro would already have three of these.

Kurt Slep, CEO of my primary rival, Sound Choice, ignorantly droned, “We’ve seen it go from drunks singing in a bar to everyday home entertainment… You can now do karaoke where you want it, when you want it, 24/7.” News flash, bud. I’ve been doing karaoke when I wanted and where I wanted for the past 3 decades. I don’t need any of your “magical” technology to do it. Get back in the mini-van.

Anyway, the first few Karaoke World Championships were in Helsinki, but this year they decided to bring out the big guns and up the ante… hence the Finnish cruiseliner. Word!

Updates to follow over the next few days… in the meantime, try to imagine yourself in *Ben Brown’s shoes, singing R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly.” Practice makes perfect, kiddo.

*Ben Brown is described by Wired as “a soft-featured 18-year-old pub worker from Clapham, England.”

Casper Wyoming Karaoke

bobbykaraoke | News | Friday, December 1st, 2006

In the city of Casper, there ain’t much to do except hunt and sing. And when you’re vegan, about the closest thing you can get to that is just plain singing. I’m talking about Casper karaoke bars, baby!

According to the Star Tribune,

Dinner, karaoke

*Powder River VFW Post 991 Ladies Auxiliary, 320 W. First Street, next to the Sandbar, hosts a dinner and karaoke the first Friday of the month. All adults are welcome. Dinner is served from 6-8 p.m., with karaoke at 8 p.m. Tonight’s menu is meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and pistachio salad for $6 per plate, $5 per plate if you bring one or more nonperishable food item for community food banks.

So if the first Friday of the month is approaching, I have two words for you: Do it!

Staten Island Karaoke

bobbykaraoke | News | Friday, December 1st, 2006

Come one, come all. All come all ye karaoke faithful! The Temple Israel down on Staten Island will be hosting a night of karaoke-fueled MADNESS. Be a part of the fun, and score a chance to meet Bobby Karaoke in person. he Sisterhood of Temple Israel Reform Congregation will sponsor a Karaoke Night this evening, beginning at 7:30 p.m. According to the press release,
“The evening will include a professional disc jockey, hors d’oeuvres and a Viennese table of desserts. Wine and beer will be available for purchase. Tickets are $25 per person. For information, call the temple office at 718-727-2231.”

$25 might seem steep, but then you finish the sentence and start the next sentence which reads ‘Wine and beer will be available for purchase.’ and then you think to yourself, “Wow, what a bargain!” Sure the commute to Staten Island sucks, but the vocals are terrific. Let’s go sing — and earn our karaoke stripes! Tonight at 7pm.

Temple Israel is at 315 Forest Ave., Randall Manor.

Karaoke Becoming Increasily Hostile

bobbykaraoke | News | Friday, December 1st, 2006

Pattaya in Thailand is not the first city to experience extreme karaoke hate crimes. Nor will it be the last. Karaoke lovers everywhere should embrace the fact that some people suck at singing… and we should embrace that diversity… not beat up a man because we think (and rightfully so) that he has a terrible voice. Notice the following, taken in context from the quality article:

“They were then approached by an unknown man who attacked them on the street. Police and our journalist believe that the manager was not telling us the whole story.”

Of course he isn’t telling the whole story. Once again, karaoke haters are coddled by the law and enabled by the very managers who these men revile behind closed doors. I believe that one day in the future, karaoke can once again become peaceful sport. Until then, wear a bullet proof vest.

Lindsay Lohan Karaoke

bobbykaraoke | News | Friday, December 1st, 2006

Lindsay Lohan may be crazy, BUT she also can’t do karaoke. Fresh off her latest night in Hollywood, Lohan started off singing her best interpretation of the Fleetwood Mac karaoke favorite, Edge of Seventeen (”Just Like The White-Winged Dove”)… but couldn’t finish. This is why real karaoke lovers PRACTICE. So here it is in all it’s glory for you to warm up next time, Linds-dogg:

Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she’s singing
Whoo… whoo… whoo…
Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she’s singing
Ooo baby… ooo… said ooo

And the days go by
Like a strand in the wind
In the web that is my own.
I begin again
Said to my friend, baby
Nothin’ else mattered

He was no more… than a baby then
Well he… seemed broken hearted
Something within him
But the moment… that I first laid
Eyes… on… him… all alone
On the edge of… seventeen

Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she’s singing
ooo baby… ooo… said ooo
Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she’s singing
Ooo baby… ooo… said ooo

I went today… maybe I will go again
Tomorrow
And the music there it was hauntingly
Familiar
And I see you doing
What I try to do for me
With the words from a poet
And the voice from a choir
And a melody… nothing else mattered

Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she’s singing
ooo baby… ooo… said ooo
Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song
Sounds like she’s singing
Ooo baby… ooo… said ooo

The clouds… never expect it
When it rains
But the sea changes colours
But the sea
Does not change
And so… with the slow… graceful flow
Of age
I went forth… with an age old
Desire… to please
On the edge of… seventeen

Just like the white winged dove
Sings a song.
Sounds like she’s singing…
Ooo baby… ooo… said ooo
Just like the white winged dove…
Sings a song…
Sounds like she’s singing…
Ooo baby… ooo… said ooo

Well then suddenly…
There was no one… left standing
In the hall… yeah yeah…
In a flood of tears
That no one really ever heard fall at all
Oh I went searchin’ for an answer…
Up the stairs… and down the hall
Not to find an answer…
Just to hear the call
Of a nightbird… singing…
Come away… come away…

Just like the white winged dove…
Sings a song
Sounds like she’s singing…
Ooo… baby ooo… said ooo
Just like the white winged dove…
Sings a song…
Sounds like she’s singing…
Ooo… baby ooo… said ooo

Well I hear you in the morning…
And I hear you…
At nightfall…
Sometime to be near you…
Is to be unable… to hear you…
My love…
I’m a few years older than you…

Just like the white winged dove…
Sings a song…
Sounds like she’s singing…
Ooo baby… ooo… said ooo

Corsicana Karaoke This Weekend!

bobbykaraoke | News | Friday, December 1st, 2006

Although the Christmas in Corsicana St Jude’s CCO was in April, it’s time to get ready for a little thing I like to call Actual Christmas coming up on December 25th!!! And what better way to celebrate than to head on out for a night on the town, complete with a karaoke pit stop!

Tonight in Corsicana, Texas the karaoke starts early, folks! The VFW Navarro County Memorial Post 3366 will be pumping the karaoke from 8:00pm till 11:45pm. The address is 4609 West State Highway 31, Corsicana, TX 75110, in between Beeman Lane and Hidden Hills Drive - you can’t miss it! Get there early to put in your song request, and if you’re feeling adventurous, head on down the road to the Longbranch Lounge or a little further, but certainly worth the drive is the Flying Red Horse Restaurant. Neither of these fine establishments dish out karaoke, so be sure to get back to the VFW in time to sing that song you picked. The VFW Post canteen opens at 4:00, so call them for more information — 903-872-3811.

Now this might pain you to hear… but more likely it will bring you much joy (!)… ON SATURDAY, community members are highly encouraged to hit up American Legion Post 22 for even MORE karaoke running from 8:30pm to 12:30am. Legion members and all guests are invited with no cover charge or admittance fees (but you better tell them Bobby Karaoke sent you). Call after the post opens (2pm), for more details — 903-874-3938. The address is 632 N Beaton Street, Corsicana, TX 75110. It’s easy to find (just off 1st street); so let’s get drunk, people!

Worst case scenario? Can’t make it out this weekend? Call the DJ and arrange him to pipe karaoke into your event next week. Word.
