As karaoke fever sweeps the nation, it has turned up in the most unlikely of places - Augusta, Georgia.
The Augusta Chronical hit a gold cache this week when it went panning for karaoke nuggets:
Downtown at the 1102 Bar & Grill on Friday you have karaoke with Bill Tolbert. At Athens Restaurant or Little Nick’s Bar & Grill (as the local’s call it, 246 Bobby Jones Expressway), you have karaoke Thursdays.
Karaoke with Russell Schroder on Tuesday’s at Cadillac’s (3328 Washington Road). Tony Howard Wednesdays at Dudley’s Dawg House Sports Bar (which sounds like a really lame UGA hangout). Peggy heads up the karaoke on Tuesdays and Saturdays at Shannon’s (300 Shartom Drive) - this one is Bobby’s pick. If you head to Shannon’s, be sure to tell Peggy that Bobby K sent ya.
If getting drunk is more your style, Sidetrack Bar and Grill is YOUR PLACE on karaoke Wednesdays. And what self-respecting Georgia Bulldog hasn’t been to Club Argos on karaoke Mondays and Thursdays?
The scene at Fishbowl Lounge can be sketchy, but with Linda and Paul karaoke nights are unforgettable (Fridays only). Stay away from The Hayloft on karaoke nights unless you like getting mugged and waking up in a pool of ice sans a kidney.
Lastly, if you are an Augusta grandpappy, head on over to the ole VFW Post 649 for karaoke Friday and all the Mitch Miller you can eat.
It blows my mind that a city so close to the backwards college known as UGA would have such a lively karaoke scene.
Oddly titled France24 is reporting that Sir Alec Guinness (the grandson of the Guinness Book of World Records) has certified that Finnish karaoke Club Kouvola has SHATTERED the record for hours of continuous karaoke. The previous record set by the Chinese in 1984 was 145 hours, but the singing continued today as the residents of Kouvola exclaimed “We won’t stop until we’ve sung non-stop for 240 hours.”
For a country that has karaoke machines in taxis, I would call Finland’s goal of 240 hours underwhelming. Especially considering that it is a group effort (not one person singing the entire time).
My buddy Charles held tune for upwards of 190 hours BY HIMSELF until he burst his larynx during The Verve Pipe’s “We Were Only Freshman” and had to be rushed to the emergency room. Unfortunately, this was at a private party, so Guiness Book wouldn’t certify it, and he never sung again.
Anyway, enough about me. Let’s talk about you.
In case you didn’t know, Sean and Greg have opened up an awesome new video game/comics store deep in the heart of Texas. And by Texas I mean EHT, and it’s called Level Up. For far too long the Pep Boys shopping center on Tilton Road (also has a WaWa), has been mysteriously devoid of a video game business.
Well folks, I am proud to announce it opened on Aug 13th and business has been brisk. So stock up on early Christmas presents now. Like the Nintendo WII or other things that will further hone your karaoke skills.
Mad Props.
The Shreveport Times is reporting a major karaoke event happening in Louisiana. (And let me tell you, Louisiana karaoke rocks your socks off, man).
Turns out, Holiday Lanes in Bossier City will host the final local competitions for the Inernational Bowling Karaoke SuperStar III contest at 9:30 p.m. Thursday April 19th, and Thursday, April 26. Karaoke on Thursdays?! Killer!
So far, 20 singers have previously qualified for the local finals - which means there is still time to do your best Paula Abdul karaoke….

Straight up now tell me is it gonna be you and me together.. oh oh oh …. did I mention admission is free?
Ryan Andrew, a celebrity Hollywood actor (IMDB link), issued the following statement today about Bobby Karaoke:
“I like your site. It’s fun, it’s fresh, (and) it’s a real tour de force.”
Bobby Karaoke would like to take this opportunity to point out that Mr. Andrew has been a supporter from the beginning, and even when this site had fallen on hard times (December of ‘06, for example), he encouraged us to “Tally Ho!” (those are my words, not his). Thanks, Mr. Andrew - you’re a class act!
I wasn’t paid to say that. But if I was, I would say, “Don’t miss the television’s most beloved program.”
Here’s the thing about AI (as the avid fans call it). Most of us true die-hard karaokers aren’t going to watch it for one simple reason: we’re practicing our own rip-offs for the Sat. night karaoke scene in Koreatown. I try to call in sick on Fridays so that I can get some added karaoke practice in before the big night.
I know what you’re thinking: “Bobby, you are crazy!” Well, you may be right. But one thing I’m not: A joke on Saturday night. The crowds love me and my voice. They call me little Bobby Sinatra, and little Bobby Springsteen. Do you get that kind of lovin? If not, I recommend visiting this site frequently to move up to the next level in karaoke. Even when I’m not writing posts for the site, I’m coming here every day to study. DON’T WASTE YOUR TALENT BY WATCHING AMERICAN IDOL. I’m just saying.
Yours in karaoke,
Bobby Karaoke
Englewood, FL (The self-proclaimed “Karaoke Capital of Florida”) is putting itself out there and making a difference. According to the Sun-Herald, “Rooster Karaoke and Friends are hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 16, to benefit the Mark Jansch Cancer Fund. Jansch has been fighting brain cancer for six years, and his family needs money to keep up the battle.”
So if you’re in Florida and want to use your karaoke for good, then get down there and show us what you got!
Bobby Karaoke just wanted to make a public announcement welcoming the return of Karaoke John back to the karaoke scene. Read the touching linked story, and I think you’ll find that he is one of the better karaoke troops out there. According to the article:
“He’s slowly recovering and has much to look forward to, including returning to the microphone and marrying Heatherington next fall. But for now, he’s focused on spending as much time as possible with his family this Christmas.”
I think we should all remember what’s important… and John is reminding us here. We wish you all the best!!
According to the CDC, 1,039,000 to 1,185,000 people were estimated to be living with HIV/AIDS in 2004. The number is undoubtedly higher today. Inform yourself with the facts…
Bobby Karaoke also urges you to consider participating in one of several 2007 AIDS Walks held around the country. It’s a great way to raise money to fight the epidemic.
Now Bobby K knows that this site is all about karaoke information and reviews…. BUT when it comes to saving his readers a buck or two, he jumps at the chance. That’s why when he found out about PayPal’s new holiday special ($20 off a $50 purchase at select retailers when you pay via PayPal), he couldn’t pass up the chance to forward the savings on to his readers. Stop by Musician’s Friend (code PAYPAL) to buy karaoke gear for yourself, and then hit up 1-800-FLOWERS (code PAYDEC) to get that bouquet for Mom. She deserves it after listening to you yelp in the microphone all these years in the living room.
Oh, and you’re 35… consider moving out and getting your own place. Tell the realtor that Bobby Karaoke sent ya.
P.S. See you all at Orchid Karaoke tonight!
